How to prepare your food product for export

Food export business is very lucrative. If you reside in a third world country such as Africa , Asia or Latin America you can export to Europe or America some food product from your country; or if you live in Europe or America you can  import some food items from other part of the world and make a lot of money. But before you ship your product you must prepare the product so that it meet foreign trade regulations.

1.Registration 
The first step is to register the product with the various agencies of your country (the export promotion council, the agricultural export service) or any equivalent agencies; they will issues a certificate that indicate that the product is safe to export
.
2. Packaging of the product
Packaged your product to meet international standard; so that the product will reach it destination in good condition. For instance, if you want to export fresh vegetable by air the product should be packed in a cartoon perforated all over. Each carton will carry 12 head of vegetables with a maximum weight of 4 kg.

3. Size and quantity of your product
The size and quantity of the product is important in the country you will sell the product; find out how product are packaged in the country you will sell the product so that you will not lose your business.

4. The name of the product
What name will you give to your product? the name l choose for my product it is an offensive name in the country am exporting the product?

5. Labelling your product
Is the label  you choose trivial, cheap looking or even offensive? would they buy it the way it looks? Your label should be appealing to consumers in the export country; if possible make an enquiry on your package design from consumers in the export country. Indicate weights and measurements  on your label according to local standard. Moreover use a bilingual labelling; for instance if you export to Canada, a French-English labelling is required; if you export to the middle-east an Arabic-English label is required.

To succeed in the Import/Export business you must be well conversant with the Import/Export regulations from your country and the foreign trade regulations.So consult an import/ export consultant, he will provide you with all information you need.
